Banned Items

Items such as the following will not be permitted to be carried on person / in cabin baggage or in registered baggage while travelling on board our flights. The list given below is not exhaustive and prevailing rules will apply.

Prohibition on carriage of E-cigarettes

E-cigarettes includes all forms of Electronic Nicotine Delivery System (ENDS) , Heat Not Burn Products, e-Hookah and the like devices , by whatever name called and whatever shape,size or form it may have is prohibited from and into India.

Items Which Cannot Be Carried In Hand Baggage

Personal Items

Lighters, Scissors-metal with pointed tips, Realistic replica of toy weapon.

Sharp Objects

Box Cutters, Ice Axes/Ice Picks, Knives (any length and type except round-bladed, butter, and plastic cutlery), Meat Cleavers, Razor-type blades such as box cutters, utility knives, razor blades not in a cartridge, but excluding safety razors, Sabres, Sword

Sporting Goods

Baseball Bats, Bows and Arrows, Cricket Bats, Golf Clubs, Hockey Sticks, Lacrosse Sticks, Pool Cues, Ski Poles, Spear Guns.

Guns and Firearm

Ammunition, BB guns, Compressed Air Guns, Firearms, Parts of Guns and Firearms, Pellet Guns, Realistic Replicas of Firearms, Starter pistols.

Tools

Axes and hatchets, Cattle Prods, Crowbars, Hammers, Drills (including cordless portables power drills), Saws (including cordless portable power saws), Screwdrivers (except those in eyeglass repair kits), Tools (including but not limited to wrenches and pliers), Wrenches and Pliers.

Martial Arts/Self Defense Items

Billy Clubs, Black Jacks, Brass Knuckles, Kubatons, Mace/Pepper Spray, Martial Arts Weapons, Night Sticks, Nunchakus, Martial Arts/Self Defense Items, Stun Guns/Shocking Devices, Throwing Stars

Items Which Cannot Be Carried In Hand Baggage And Even As Checked -in Baggage

Banner Items

Drone/Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) /Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) /Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) are restricted items and cannot be carried in cabin baggage.

Import Control Regime for Power-Assisted Bicycles (PABs) and Motorized Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs).

Explosive Materials

Such as Flare Guns, Gun Lighters and Gun Powder, Explosive material. Blasting caps, Dynamite, Fireworks, Flares (in any form), Hand Grenades, Plastic Explosives and Realistic Replicas of Explosives.

Compressed gases

Such as (deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable and poisonous) Such as Butane, Oxygen, Liquid nitrogen and Aqualung cylinders. (deeply refrigerated, flammable, non-flammable and poisonous)

Flammable Items

Such as Aerosol (any except for personal care or toiletries in limited quantities), Fuels (including cooking fuels and any flammable liquid fuel), Gasoline, Gas Torches, Lighter Fluid, Strike anywhere matches, Turpentine and Paint Thinner, Realistic Replicas of Incendiaries

Oxidizing materials

Such as bleaching powder, peroxides

Poisonous and infectious substances

Such as insecticides, weed-killers and live virus materials.

Restriction on carriage of certain 15-inch MacBook Pro Laptops

Apple Inc. has issued an advisory recalling a limited number of older generation 15‐inch MacBook Pro laptops, sold primarily between September 2015 and February 2017, for battery replacement due to possible battery overheating issues, when in use. Not all 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops sold within this period are affected / eligible.

Certain other items such as the following may be carried only with advance approval according to policies of Air India, interlining carriers and local regulations

Battery-powered wheelchairs with spillable/non-spillable batteries, dry ice, portable medical electronic devices etc.

Carriage of Battery cells.

The carriage of battery cells in hand baggage for any electrical / electronic items are permissible now & will now not be removed at the security point. Batteries spare / loose, including lithium ion cells or batteries, for portable electronic devices must be carried in carry-on baggage only. For lithium metal batteries the lithium metal content must not exceed 2 g and for lithium ion batteries the Watt-hour rating must not exceed 100 Wh. Articles which have the primary purpose as a power source, e.g. power banks are considered as spare batteries. These batteries must be individually protected to prevent short circuits. Each person is limited to a maximum of 20 spare batteries.

Carriage Of 'Kirpan' By Sikh Passengers While Traveling By Air.

Security Regulations - Carriage of "Kirpans" in the Passenger Cabin

The 'Kirpan' is an important religious symbol of Sikhism. As per Indian law, Passengers travelling on flights with point of origin and destination both being within India, on an Indian registered aircraft are permitted to carry a 'Kirpan' in person. The dimensions of the 'Kirpan' must not exceed a total maximum length of 9 inches (22.86 cms.), including the length of the blade not exceeding 6 inches (15.24 cms.) and the length of the handle not exceeding 3 inches (7.62 cms).

Carriage of 'Kirpan' is not permitted in the cabin of an aircraft either on person or in the Hand Baggage on any International flight or on any Domestic flight operating through an International Terminal Security Hold Area. The same must be carried by the passenger in the checked-in baggage only.

Baggage Tips

Travel light for an enjoyable journey. Improper carriage of baggage can put one through a lot of inconvenience. Passengers are therefore advised to ensure their baggage is properly packed and tagged. The following tips will be handy.

  • Passenger is the custodian of all baggage including hand baggage and its content at all times.
  • Make sure you know your free checked baggage as well as hand bag allowance.
  • Know the latest restrictions on carriage of certain items whether in hand bag or in check-in bag.
  • Don't pack any valuables in your checked baggage.
  • Any items over your free baggage allowance will be charged as excess baggage, including duty free purchases.
  • Label your bags correctly with your name and address and remove tags and labels left over from previous flights.
  • Keep all bags including handbags locked at all times, and be vigilant.
  • Do not carry packages or items with unidentified content on behalf of anyone.
  • Do not accept any packets from unknown persons.
  • In some instances you may be required to identify or claim your baggage, for reasons of security or customs regulations, at the connecting point.
  • Do not leave baggage unobserved at any time, especially within airport area. Unattended baggage may be removed by Airport Security Staff as an object of suspicion.
  • Observe all precautions with your personal belongings and hand baggage at all times, including on-board.
  • Make sure you declare before checking-in, if carrying any arms or explosive substances. Concealment is an offence under the Aircraft Act and Rules.
  • Before approaching the check-in counters, you may be required to pass all your pieces of baggage to be checked in through the X-ray machines operated by security personnel.
  • Make sure you take medication, important documents, valuable items and cash in your hand baggage for access and control.
  • Consider adequate insurance for travel including medical exigencies and personal belongings.
  • For travel to and within US, please use Transport and Security Administration (TSA) compliant locks.
